Congratulations! You’ve finished writing your story! Whether you’ve finished a short story, a novella, or a full-length novel, you should be proud of your accomplishment. But you do know the journey isn’t over, right?
The next step is editing. Editing can be daunting. And tiring. And exciting! This is the stage where you cut and polish your prose into a sparkling work of art before sending it out into the world. This is an essential step for the serious writer.
I have a passion for helping writers improve their work. As an editor, I want to strengthen people’s stories, help make their characters and dialogue memorable, and sharpen their grammar. I would love to come alongside you to make your unique story as strong as possible. I’m largely self-taught, but I have also trained alongside the editors for Twenty Hills Publishing, and I’m one of the Editorial Assistants for Sparkler Magazine.

Developmental Edit – Full Novel Manuscript
This is the kind of editing that looks at the “big picture” and seeks to make your overall story strong and cohesive. We’ll look at plot, structure, pacing, character development, and themes. This is the kind of editing needed after you go through a couple drafts, and it prepares your work for submission (if you’re going the traditional publishing route) or indie publication.
- What I’m Offering: First, we’ll chat via video or phone call and discuss your piece to make sure we’re a good fit. I want to learn what you envision for your story and what you feel are your strengths and weaknesses, and I want to make sure you understand my editing style. Then I’ll read through your manuscript, providing comments, questions, and suggestions throughout. I’ll provide a summary letter touching on these areas: character development, pacing, dialogue, plot and structure, setting, and any other areas of concern. Once that’s complete, we’ll touch base once more to go over any questions you might have.
- Investment/Cost: $0.025 per word
- Timeline: This can vary widely and depends on the length and complexity of your manuscript, but anticipate anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks.
- Genres: I’m all about fantasy, whether high or low, epic or cozy. I’ll gladly look at any speculative story – science fiction, steampunk, and dystopian are welcome! Currently, I’m focused on fantasy for adult and YA audiences (I’m learning more about middle grade expectations, so that will be offered in the future!). I don’t mind some horror, violence, or language, but I will not read or edit erotica. Please reach out with questions!
